Glenn works closely with school heads, teachers, and volunteers in assessing staff needs and is available to consult and mediate as needed. He facilitates a network of LA’s Jewish youth professionals and provides ongoing support services and professional development opportunities for this group. He also directs the Sulam Center for Jewish Service Learning and organizes a summer service learning day camp for Bar/Bat Mitzvah age children.
Glenn has been in and around Jewish education since childhood. His late father was also a career Jewish educator and spent 20 years operating the Religious School at Congregation Beth Sholom in San Francisco. A day did not go by when the issues of “making a difference” were not discussed at the Karonsky dinner table.
Glenn’s education includes undergraduate and graduate studies at UC Berkeley, UCLA, American Jewish University, The Hebrew University and the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. In addition to rabbinic ordination at JTS, Glenn earned a MA in Education at UCLA. Glenn has been privileged to serve a number of forward thinking organizations, including a decade of service to Camp Ramah in California as well as helping the San Francisco East Bay Federation to establish a new central agency for Jewish learning and living. He served for several years as the chief youth professional for National Hadassah and helped to re-establish its national summer camp programming and Year Course program in Israel.
He feels blessed to work at BJE and amongst a truly professional and caring cadre of educational visionaries who take seriously the challenge of ensuring the Jewish future.
