mcohen@bjela.orgA native of Southern California, Maya graduated from Milken Community High School in 2004. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Jewish Studies from Indiana University-Bloomington in 2008. Maya has been involved in numerous Jewish organizations such as Hillel, Camp Ramah and The Jewish Federation. She was Program Coordinator and 7th grade teacher at Congregation Ner Tamid in Palos Verdes for three years and in summer 2011, led BJE’s Summer Service Corps, a service learning program for students in middle school.
Maya’s experiences as a participant on BJE March of the Living in 2004 ignited a passion for Holocaust Studies and education; and inspired her to work professionally on BJE March of the Living. Maya staffed BJE MOTL in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and she currently coordinates educational and travel components of the trip and works directly with program participants and alumni. Maya feels fortunate to be contributing to the very program that tremendously impacted her as a high school student eight years ago, and she loves being part of the BJE family.
