Financial Assistance to Students
BJE provides tuition assistance for students in private
Jewish day schools from a variety of resources: the Max & Lillian Candiotty
Scholarship Fund, Simha & Sara Lainer for Scholarship Fund, the Dr. S.
Jerome & Judith D. Tamkin Scholarship Fund, and the Milken Family
Foundation. Funds are given directly to
schools and become part of financial assistance arrangements made with families
by the schools.
The Jim Joseph Foundation High School Affordability
Initiative
In 2009, the Jim Joseph Foundation selected BJE as a partner
for an extraordinary model project, the Jim Joseph Foundation High School Affordability Initiative (JJFHSAI).
Administered by BJE in cooperation with the Jewish Federation, this
innovative program subsidizes tuition for children from middle income families
enrolled at five Jewish high schools: Milken, Shalhevet, YULA Boys, YULA Girls
and New Community Jewish High School.
During the six year grant period, the JJFHSAI grant will provide tuition
assistance for at least 180 new students and up to 452 continuing students and
provide support to schools in developing endowment resources to provide student
subsidies on a sustained basis.
