BJE Hosts
Service Learning Workshop
On May 21, 2009 over forty educators and youth workers, representing 25 schools and Jewish youth organizations throughout the greater Los Angeles area, were led by Cathryn Berger Kaye in the service learning workshop, Strategies for Meaningful Service Learning.
Internationally renowed expert Kaye demonstrated how youth were transformed in the process of doing service, and how they contributed to the lives of people.
The workshop was presented by the BJE Community of Practice, Service Learning, which is funded through a generous grant by the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles and coordinated by Naomi Ezekiel-Sayegh of the BJE. For more information on service learning opportunities please contact Ms. Ezekiel-Sayegh at 323-761-8636 or by e-mail.
Announcing the Jewish Family Relief Network
The Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles has generously funded the Jewish Family Relief Network, offering a range of critical services for members of the Jewish community who, for the first time, in response to the economic downturn, are in need of job search assistance or family support services.
The Foundation is supporting a limited number of need-based scholarships through the Bureau of Jewish Education for students enrolled in BJE affiliated K-8 Day Schools for the 2009-2010 school year. Families who have not previously received financial aid from their child's school should contact the Day School directly and ask about the Jewish Community Foundation/BJE scholarship program.
Raising a Jewish child
in LA?
There are so many ways to raise a Jewish child in Los Angeles that it can be hard to decide where to begin. Whether it happens in Parent and Me, in school, or at camp, Jewish connections are the key. That's where Debra Markovic and Rachel Kaplan can help, Concierges for Jewish Education, they'll help you navigate the wealth of opportunities available and help you find the right match for your family.
Re-Imagining Jewish Education
The BJE is proud to bring the RE-IMAGINE Project to Los Angeles, delivered in partnership with The Experiment in Congregational Education (ECE) of the Rhea Hirsch School of Education (RHSOE), HUC-JIR in Los Angeles. ECE has worked with congregations across the movements to foster synagogue and educational transformation with 41 congregations in New York, congregations in San Francisco, Kansas City, and nationwide.
Re-Imagine, made possible through the generosity of the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles and an anonymous national funder, is a two-to-three year systemic process of re-imagining Jewish learning for children to help congregations meet the changing educational and spiritual needs of today’s Jewish families.
