Miriam consults with the 38 day schools in Los Angeles to strengthen their operational capacity while also building overall support for day schools.
Just prior to this assignment, Miriam served as Vice President for Planning and Allocations. In this position Miriam was the Federation's liaison to local and national agencies and was also involved in determining and overseeing the department’s planning and funding initiatives (e.g. Los Angeles Jewish Population Survey, Jewish poverty, the Federation's response to the proposed State budget cuts, Jewish Renaissance and Renewal.)
Prior to coming to the Federation as Refugee Acculturation Coordinator in August 1989, Miriam was Director of Admissions at the University of Judaism. Miriam has also worked as Director of the Jewish Federation's San Fernando Valley Community Relations Committee; for the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Los Angeles as Program Director, Southern Region and Teen Director, Valley Cities JCC; and as Hillel Director at the University of Illinois, Chicago Circle.
A graduate of Hebrew Union College/University of Southern California's double masters program in Jewish Communal Service and Social Work, Miriam also has a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in Spanish Literature, from the University of California at Los Angeles. She is the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate in Jewish Communal Service from Hebrew Union College, the Jewish Federation’s Micah Award, the Distinguished Service Award from the Jewish Communal Professionals of Southern California, Certificates of Appreciation from the City of Los Angeles and the City of West Hollywood's and the Community Service Scholarship Award from Hebrew Union College.
