BJE Lainer Interns

Internship Participants with Mark Lainer
Since 1992, the Lainer Interns Program has introduced college juniors and seniors to issues in Jewish education and community service.  Many alumni have, subsequently, served as Jewish educators and communal professionals.

The unique, 3-semester BJE Lainer Interns program – modified from an earlier format, for the 2017-2019 cohort – is open to Jewish students at universities throughout the Greater Los Angeles/Southern California area with an interest in exploring issues in Jewish education and communal service. The program launches with a spring orientation workshop toward the end of sophomore year, and includes mentorship and seminars during one semester of junior year (fall or spring, as determined by each Intern), supervised field work during senior year, and a senior year, online seminar exploring topics in/approaches to Jewish education. Lainer Interns who, independently, choose to study at an Israeli university during junior year, receive a $1000 stipend toward the cost of that semester’s study program or travel.

The aim of BJE Lainer Interns is to encourage those with demonstrated interest to deepen their understanding of Jewish education and the Jewish community. Some will consider career options in that or related fields; all are likely to develop ongoing involvement with Jewish education. It is expected that program experiences will serve as a source of growth and strength to participants and significantly impact their communities.

Applications will be accepted until March 15, 2017 from students enrolled as sophomores at Greater Los Angeles/Southern California area colleges and universities.
