Nancy Schulman has a long history with BJE and believes deeply in the impact of its work throughout the LA Jewish community – from early childhood through the teen years.
Nancy and her husband Jay agreed early on that giving their children a Jewish education was a priority and one of the most important responsibilities they had as Jewish parents. They started with “Mommy and Me” at their synagogue and were able to continue their education in Jewish Day School from kindergarten all the way through high school. “We recognized that the values, morals and knowledge they would and did receive at school would mirror what we tried to teach and emulate at home. I am very grateful and proud that we were able to give our sons this Jewish education which is the foundation for their Jewish identity and the way they live their Jewish lives.”
Nancy’s sons attended Valley Beth Shalom Day School and Milken Community High School. She served on the Milken Board of Trustees. She has also served on a number of committees at Valley Beth Shalom, and in many committees and roles at BJE. After being on the BJE board for more than 10 years, this year, Nancy steps back onto the BJE executive committee as a Vice President.
“I am so grateful I had the opportunity to go to such amazing Jewish schools. Not only did I learn how to think critically, but I learned how my Jewish values are a core part of my identity. My Jewish education has taught me how important our community is and my responsibility as an adult to teach these lessons to the next generation.”
- Michael Schulman
“My education taught me not only to be proud of my Judaism, but that I truly do have the power to make a difference. When I think of the VBS and Milken schools, I think of the loving community of amazing teachers and friends that helped me grow into the person I am today.”
- Daniel Schulman
