Another Successful Day of Service Learning for BJE
BJE’s Spring Day of Service Learning was a rewarding experience for volunteers and residents alike! A partnership between BJE Impact and BJE’s JKidLA, the Program was held at the Los Angeles Jewish Home in Reseda. More than 50 volunteers of all ages joined residents of the Home for challah making, planting potted plants, arts and crafts, singing and interacting with, and learning the personal stories of the residents.
BJE’s Day of Service Learning was again co-chaired by sisters-in-law Amy Leibowitz and Kimberly Schwarz. Both were thrilled by the interest and the turnout out, as well as the interaction with the residents of the Jewish Home. “It is incredibly gratifying to spend part of the weekend rolling up your sleeves and being part of hands on service work, along with dozens of other members of our community.”
Following the event, Rabbi Ron Goldberg, of the Los Angeles Jewish Home wrote: “I just completed a circuit of walking our Main Dining Room and the residents who attended the event are telling those who did not, that they missed out. [Those] who attended are united in telling me what a fun time they had and how much they enjoy our guests, especially the students. I feel comfortable in saying, a good time was had by all.”
This was BJE’s third community wide Day of Service Learning. For information about future day of service events, email Millie Wexler or call 323-761-8631.
