Our Jewish past offers us tremendous richness and depth. When our students confront our past with excitement and make it their own, then something special, something electric, takes place. And when it does, our students carry forward the spirit that was entrusted to us.
Being a Builder of Jewish education means preparing our young people to embrace both tradition and modernity. It means creating educational programs that help kids think well, belong to something greater than themselves, and take positive action – now, and in the future.
A Builder of Jewish education is not satisfied with the status quo. To build means to encounter challenges, and even resistance at times. But a builder perseveres, out of a passion for the mission, and recognition that without building, the mission fails.
I never planned on committing my life to Jewish education - now, I can’t imagine doing anything else. With every thoughtful, passionate young person that passes through our school, I further understand the importance of nurturing a new generation of Jewish difference-makers.
To me, being a Builder of Jewish education means we’re building upon our Jewish heritage and our traditions through education. My role is to connect the community with all different types of Jewish educational opportunities so they can grow as Jews – camps, schools, youth programs, parent and me classes.
In addition to sharing news of BJE's programs and services with the broader community, BJE has launched a Builder Campaign, highlighting people who are part of BJE's network - the Builders of Jewish education. Builders play a variety of roles in Jewish education in Los Angeles, as educators, students, parents and grandparents. Some are philanthropists, some are thought leaders, all are passionate about Jewish education in their communities, and in the broader community.
Dear BJE Builder,
There is only one organization in Los Angeles wholly committed to Jewish education in its many expressions - BJE: Builders of Jewish Education. Every day, BJE is part of building LA's vibrant Jewish community.
BJE can't do this without your help. It takes a community to educate our children; we hope you will consider supporting the work of BJE by becoming a Builder of Jewish education.
