On Shavuot and Jewish Education

Jewish tradition associates Shavuot with the experience of receiving Torah at Sinai, 50 days after liberation from slavery in Egypt.  Passover marks freedom from bondage; Shavuot celebrates freedom to lead purposeful lives.  As the Israelites are about to encounter Torah, the Torah describes Israel’s mission with the phrase: “kingdom of priests; holy nation.”

Joint Teen Service Days with Habitat for Humanity of Greater LA - July 18

We invite all teen educators  to partner with us and plan one of three service projects (scheduled for March 4, 2018, May 6, 2018 and July 18, 2018) for your teens and teens from other programs across greater LA with Habitat for Humanity of Greater LA. For more information and to join us in partnering on one of these Teen Service days, please contact David Lewis, [email protected] or 323-761-8618.  The May 6th event is specifically for teens 16 and older.

The 37th Annual BJE Bebe Feuerstein Simon Early Childhood Institute convened at Adat Ari El on Monday, March 12th, 2018

The 37th Annual BJE Bebe Feuerstein Simon Early Childhood Institute convened at Adat Ari El on Monday, March 12th, 2018. Upwards of 300 early childhood educators from across Los Angeles gathered for a day of professional development, and the presentation of the Lainer Distinguished Educator and Smotrich Family Foundation Awards.

The day's events began with the presentation of the Smotrich Family Foundation and the Lainer Distinguished Educator Awards by BJE's own Betty Winn, Director, Center for Excellence in Early Childhood & Day School Education.

Reshet LA Workshop

Reshet LA-a partnership of BJE and the Union for Reform Judaism to spur innovation in Los Angeles religious schools- will hold its 7th workshop, examining personalized education - how a school can adjust to meet the needs of each individual student.

15 schools are projected to participate.
