BJE Convenes Landmark Conference of Jewish Educational Leaders

Jewish Peoplehood & Identity: What’s Next for our Schools?

The L.A. Jewish community has been buffeted by a variety of unprecedented challenges in recent years: COVID, economic/employment disruption, a mental health crisis among young people, decreasing membership in the organized Jewish community and, more recently, the October 7th terror attack on Israel, the ongoing war in Gaza, and increasing global antisemitism. These phenomena affect everyone in our school communities and create important questions – not just about what our immediate responses should be, but how we move forward as educational institutions.

On April 1, 2024, BJE: Builders of Jewish Education will convene Jewish part-time and day school administrators, leaders, youth professionals, clergy, partners, and experts to examine the impact of October 7th on Jewish peoplehood and identity and to develop approaches for addressing where L.A.’s Jewish schools go from here. The day-long program will be held at Stephen Wise Temple and will feature professional presentations, training, and breakout sessions facilitated by both local and national educational leaders and experts, followed by individualized school planning sessions at the end of the day.
